Taking Photos of Animals and Wildlife can take some skill and allot of patience. These three tips will help you take some great wildlife pictures.
1. Invest in a Telephoto Lens
Making sure your close enough to take a shot is tough. Making sure your at a safe distance and trying to get close to the action can be extremely hard. That’s why you should invest in a telephoto lens. The Normal rule of thumb is that you should try and remain 100 yards away from the wildlife this will help make the photo look nature and keep you safe. Using a telephoto lens allows you to do this.

If the fence is black, it will work even better. If the fence is reflective then you might have trouble again because you will get some of the sunlight reflecting off. 2. Adjust the Shutter Speed
If animals are moving, you have to quickly determine what type of shot you are going to take. If you want your camera to capture the moment then you need to shoot faster then 1/500. Messing around with the shutter speed can be hard, and even harder when dealing with different light levels.
Make sure when your using your digital camera that you crank the ISO up. This is turn makes the camera take in more like and will boost the shutter speed. Getting a shot with movement will require that you put your shutter speed on 1/4 or 1/8. Pan your camera with the animal you are photographing. You will need to be steady handed while you are panning. You will get the best pictures if you choose uncluttered backgrounds to have the animal “pop” in the picture.
3. To Fill in Shadows Use a Flash
This is a trick professional photographers use often, but many amateur photographers have never heard of it. On a sunny day you can use a flash to fill in the shadows. We will not be using flash to illuminate the animal as if it was dark. Instead in sunlight it fills in the shadows giving you a much better picture.
However, before you get busy using a flash around wild animals be conscious about whether the flash is going to scare the animal. You’ll want to avoid such situations. In situations where you will be shooting through glass the flash cannot be used as it will reflect the light back and you will just have a white picture.
